Married Baby Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
poe-48833 In theatrical terms, it was a zinger of a finish. Rousing Ronda Rousey, now "the former UFC Bantamweight champion," was so beautiful (going INTO the fight) that, even when she "scowled menacingly" at her opponents, the most she could muster was to look Cute- but that belied her viciousness in the cage: not once but TWICE I saw her intentionally try to maim her opponent. She talked s--- and, like many a media-made monster before her, began to believe her own hype. (It goes without saying that for a young woman to sport a shirt bearing the likeness of convicted rapist "Ironed Mike" Tyson, her priorities were somewhat skewed...) A Great Fighter fights Great Fights- and she had yet to do that (and, based on what we saw the other night, it ain't likely to EVER happen: her Game has more holes in it than Swiss cheese) (Not that THAT'll stop the used car salesmen from hyping her next fight...). I bought my wife a DVD of Rousey's previous fights, pointing out that she was living proof that women could handle men in a one-on-one situation with the right kind of training- but I also pointed out to her that Holly Holm had the SKILLS to stop Rousey. The Wife never got around to watching that DVD, but I did, because it's STILL proof that women can protect themselves if they're taught HOW. Just ask Holly Holm.
