Yazmin Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
TheLittleSongbird Tom Thumb Meets Thumbelina is neither among the best or worst Golden Films animations. It is however very charming, much better than the other animated version of these two characters with Jennifer Love Hewitt anyhow. The motorcycle did seem out of place in a medieval setting, and there are parts that are on the clichéd side(evil son wanting to take over and finding the long lost prince). These aside, the animation is bright and colourful, the songs are catchy- the title song gets in your head and is so infectious and Medwin's I want song has some witty lyrics- and the classical music choices such as Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade and Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony to name a few are fun to spot and incorporated very nicely. The dialogue doesn't suffer from being cheesy or childish and the story even with the clichés is charming and briskly paced. There are even some funny moments like when Medwin gets his comeuppance, and despite what you read in hindsight it didn't feel preachy either. Thumbelina is an endearing heroine, Tom while not as interesting is still likable, the animals and fairies are cute, Richard is suitably kindly and Medwin is not bad a villain either. The voice acting is solid. Overall, charming and entertaining. 8/10 Bethany Cox
