NekoHomey Purely Joyful Movie!
Cortechba Overrated
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Scotty Burke It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "Tischlein deck dich" is a German film from 2008, so this one here is already almost a decade old, maybe actually a decade old depending on when you read this review. This is one of many 1-hour fairy tale films made for the small screen around that time and if you take a look at the bodies of work by writer Ungureit and director König, you will realize they were indeed very prolific, even back then already. It is all based on a Brothers Grimm story and while probably not too many know the exact contents of this tale, the title is really well-known, at least here in Germany. But sadly this version we got here is one that does not exactly raise the film's appeal by any means, even if you will find many familiar names here like Bär, Neubauer, Glatzeder, Naujoks, Pistor, Zierl and FX Brückner. But while this may seem like a strong field that many cinema releases cannot compete with, if you take a closer look, then you will see that several of them despite being famous have not exactly acted in many great films and have given even less strong performances. Neubauer is the best example here. So it's all a matter of perspective. And besides all the big names who may have very little screen time only, the pick for lead actor Remo Schulze was not really the most inspired choice either. He is daily soap opera material, nothing more and time told us back then already. Basically all the best moments from these 59 minutes have to do with the occasional strength of the Grimms' base material, but not necessarily with the work by cast and crew here. Certainly nowhere near the best from all these German relatively brief films I give it a thumbs-down. Watch something else instead.
