Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Yazmin Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de) "The Trap" is a 19-minute movie from almost 10 years ago and it is the only directorial effort by actress Rita Wilson (Tom Hanks' wife). The writer is Anna Fricke and lead actress is Jeanne Tripplehorn. So with this female dominance here, it should not be a surprise to anybody that the film is about a strong female character, her doubts and also a lot about girl power. But the most known cast member is still Channing Tatum, even if he does not have too much screen time. The rest of the cast also includes a couple actors and actresses who have been prolific in the past and successful and who you may have seen in other projects already, such as Camilla Belle. I personally did not enjoy the watch here. It stays very much on the surface and fails to elaborate on any of the characters, especially the main character, in a convincing manner. This is more Fricke's than Wilson's fault though, as the script simply offers too little. But nonetheless I cannot say I am sad that Wilson never directed another film again, before or afterward, she has yet to convince me behind the camera. I do not recommend the watch.
slr_imaging While I downloaded this as a free offering on iTunes, I nevertheless feel that I paid too much - essentially 21:45 of my life that I will never get back. The story revolves around a woman whose friends throw her a surprise birthday party. She is insecure, controlling and unhappy with her life. At least we more or less are able to glean that from what little we learn about her from her actions and side comments she makes mostly to herself. While I usually like Jeanne Tripplehorn, I found her wooden and unsympathetic in this role. Not that she had much to work with - the script was vapid and the premise superficial. Avoid this trap.
