Only 69 votes as of today, so not many people have voted on this one. Weird narrator pretends to interview someone in the first few minutes; we hear the questions, but we don't hear any answers. Then the film starts. Donovan (Bryce Blais) from "the record company" is hanging around Pagan, but its all messed up. and Pagan is all messed up. and into drugs, make-up, and leather. Dale Dymkowski is Pagan, the singer of a rock band, in the early 1970s. Since it IS the 1970s, everyone is having sex with everyone... although they use sexual terms that weren't around then. and everyone is tripping crazy. weird stuff happens... bad stuff happens. a death. a kidnapping. everything is in turmoil, a lot of time spent on which drugs to take. and for some reason, Donovan also runs the sound board at the recording studio ? some odd left turns, but there IS a basic plot. Some chicks want Pagan for their own weird reasons. He is trying to come up with lyrics for a song... and he has a tape of songs that another band is trying to release. a bit confusing, but gotta just go along for the ride. shirtless dudes all over, but no real nudity. some simulated sex scenes. Written and directed by Everett Lewis, who has done several other LGBT films. This one borders on the "John Waters style of film-making; offbeat story, oddball characters. Pretty goofy but fun but if you have the patience. a couple things don't make sense, but they are easily overlooked in the grand scheme.

I won't bother here to write a full-length review about this excellent film, since I wrote what I really wanted to say about it in my review for Amazon's WWW sites and I don't have to plaster the Internet with what I have to say. However, the 3.5 average rating on this site that has accrued so far simply is injustice beyond conception! Perhaps some who detest all things gay resulted in such an absurdly low rating. "The Pretty Boys", just on the musical level, is exceedingly good; as a gay film, it ranks among the very top contenders, in my book. The male actors are beautiful men who know how to act and to perform musically and cinematically. See it, get the DVD, judge for yourselves. (And read my Amazon review!)
