Reviews
Colibel Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Janae Milner Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.
Tyreece Hulme One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
ryinex I thought the movie was quite good. It kept me entertained through the entire two hours. As I myself did not have express details on the outcome of the trial featured in the film. I was unaware of the outcome so I was kept guessing. There was good quality of acting, in that James McAvoy portrayed a genuinely upset and determined lawyer seeking justice rather than vengeance. It was relatively accurate historically with the assassination of Lincoln with how he was aided by other southerns and how the court officials sought someone to blame instead of the truth. It was kind of frustrating watching the case slowly come together only to fall apart at the dishonesty and corruption of the government.
amandaraddis Historically accurate except for minor details. The acting was great and the scenery and costumes suited the time period very well. This movie was anything but cliché and the ending was unexpected. I recommend this movie to anyone who is interested in investigations, law, criminal justice, and of course U.S. History. If you are interested in an accurate representation of the motives to kill President Abraham Lincoln, or if you are curious of who committed or planned to murder Lincoln, I highly recommend watching this thrilling and shocking drama. If you enjoy the gory battles and violence during the American Civil War, I do not suggest watching this movie because it focuses on what happened after the war, and pays attention towards the investigation of President Lincoln's assassination. Overall, this movie is fantastic and captivating.
Sarah M This movie was intriguing and the setting, costumes, and actors were wonderful. Wright portrayed Mary Surratt in a way that showed the weight of the time and situation which she was in. The film gives insight on how politics and legal systems were in the late 1800s. I've always been fascinated with Lincoln, even as a child, so seeing the aftermath of his assassination was amazing. Before watching this film I had never heard of Mary Surratt and found the whole story to grab my attention from start to finish. Overall I think that this film was very compelling and sparks a greater interest toward the Civil War and Lincoln's assassination.
Riss Morton This drama is a good depiction of the controversy and emotion that surrounded Lincoln's assassination. In this movie you get to experience a new perspective of the Union being corrupt and unjust. I decided to watch this movie due to a history project. I was surprised at how involved I became in the movie. The characters were semi relatable, and you really wanted the main character to win the court case. Although court scene after court scene can become boring if you look into the underlying tone of good versus evil in the movie, you will be captivated by the struggle. The development of the plot started out confusing and the viewer may not be able to comprehend all the characters introduced and their roles. However, by the end of the movie the main characters are obvious and the viewer will become attached to them. I overall enjoyed the movie, however, I like feel-good movies with a happy ending. The end of this movie left me angry and disappointed.
