The Age of Commercialism

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
Hadrina
The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Allison Davies
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Just for any researcher trawling the web for infoabout this film I can tell you that it about or contains incest. I found this in an article on Americancensorship from October 1930, in the British film magazine Close Up. The critic was expressingbemusement at the fact that this film was allowed to be shown in America while the Soviet film Village of Sin was banned, based on the claim that 'it doesn't happen here'. The American critic's point was that American films get away with more than foreign films in the US because of the US fear of 'insidious foreign propaganda'.
