The Adventures of Philibert, Captain Virgin Trailers

Philibert, a robust lad and eldest son of an artichoke farmer, stands out from the other boys in the village. Idealistic and ingenuous, he foresees for himself a glorious future in artichokes and is saving his virginity for an as-yet-unknown woman chosen for him by God. Before he dies, his father tells him that he isn't his real parent. Philibert's real father was a gentleman murdered in the most cowardly way by a man from Burgundy who is recognisable by a rose-shaped strawberry birthmark on his neck. With a pouch full of ideals and artichokes, Philibert leaves his village and gallops towards Burgundy, accompanied by Martin, his rather deceitful manservant. Philibert's courage, kindness, physical and moral purity will thus be severely tested when faced with the baseness and venality of villains and the temptation of women each more lustful than the last.

Reviews
Tacticalin An absolute waste of money
RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Jakoba True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.
dbdumonteil Jocelyn Quivrin was to play the lead, but he died before the shooting :that's why the movie is dedicated to him.Jérémie Rénier became "Philibert ,Capitaine Puceau " (= Virgin Captain);directed by Sylvain Fusée (whose surname means "rocket")! Rénier is certainly one of the ten best European actors of today:At ease in dramas and in comedies ,he has plenty of go,of humor, and the part of a clumsy oaf was tailor made for him .It's the sixteenth century ,folks,in the kingdom of France and Philibert's father ,who grows artichokes ,sees his cultures thrive .The boy's career is mapped out in a century hard on the poor ;besides he does not want to lose his virginity until he finds the one God intends for him.The movie is a wonderful spoof on the swashbuckler genre, Jean Marais's costume dramas of the late fifties/early sixties and pirates sagas ,with a good dose of melodrama thrown in for good measure. What does Philibert learn? That his father is not his father ,that he is a highborn young man, whose true dad was killed by a lord,a villain inspired by the numerous Robin Hood versions..A strawberry mark proves it. So long, artichokes, hello adventures !Philibert 's saga will be eventful ,the hardest thing being to keep his virginity (hence his nickname). And there are enough gorgeous ladies on his way to make the task difficult.Vive Philibert! And Vive Rénier!
