Reviews
MusicChat It's complicated... I really like the directing, acting and writing but, there are issues with the way it's shot that I just can't deny. As much as I love the storytelling and the fantastic performance but, there are also certain scenes that didn't need to exist.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Dana An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.
John Rankine Don't be put off by the lurid cover of this film as its not frightening and its certainly not gory, it gets a 12 certificate in the UK. What it does have is a sort of fascination, its the sort of film that just plods along drawing you with it wanting to know what's going to happen next. Liliana Cabal is one of those women who isn't pretty but definitely has an attraction; perhaps because I'm a forty something viewer and she appeals to my age group, but she makes a credible vampire. You can believe in the men she picks up being attracted to her. I was surprised to see this film was released in 2001 as it must have been made in the early 80s, the reference to Star Wars puts it this side of 1977 obviously. I would say if you're a collector of the genre like me then this is worth having for its curiosity value, the tale of a vampire stumbling into a suburban lifestyle and trying to survive in it, somewhat more believable than Blade!
J Lane This film is on the border. The first half is so bad it's good, and then it gets to be so bad it is just plain bad. Liliana Cabal dose a good job of playing someone with no memory. But that is the high point. The rest of the acting is bad. Now a few points on Vampire Lore. Most modern film makers do not seem to take 'Buffy...' and Stoker as gospel and mess with it. I don't think this film is any worse. This film seems to be set in the same general biological area Able Ferrara's 1995 film 'The Addiction'. With the vampires okay in daylight with shades and able to suffer injury. In Anne Rice novels vampires have been known to suffer memory loss from blows to the head. So that is okay. Crosses, that one is dropped in a lot of more modern films. In 'The Hunger' the vampires also wear crosses (albeit Egyptian style ones). This film is trying to be modern and scientific about vampires, which means dropping the superstition.
Monica4937 Angela, a vampire, is hit by a car while hitchhiking on the side of the road. This in turn causes her to become amnesiac. Roger, the guy who hit her, offers to let her stay at his place until she regains her memory since she refuses to be checked into a hospital. Throughout the course of her stay they fall in love, but little does Roger know that Angela harbours a dark and deadly secret. There isn't a whole lot to say about this one other than it's pretty average quality and goes against just about every vampire myth there is imaginable. Some of the major contradictions this film contains are: 1. Angela wears a cross necklace, which in the folklore is supposed to burn the vampire's skin if touched. In this case, it does absolutely nothing. 2. When a vampire is exposed to sunlight they immediately catch fire. In this case, Angela merely puts on a pair of sunglasses and 3. She suffers from amnesia...I know that that is what makes the whole film (her being amnesiac and therefore needing someone to care for her) but she's a vampire, and I had always assumed vampires couldn't suffer the same "damages" a normal human can. Ah well, overall it was an OK film, but I wouldn't rush out to the store to get it. 5/10
Bec85 This is possibly the worst movie I have ever had the displeasure of sitting through. There really isn't too much you can say about this movie, apart from the fact that the acting left a lot to be desired, and the storyline (if it can be called that) was vague and completely uninspiring. A supposed "horror" movie, this left me feeling disappointed, and like this should be classed as a comedy of errors more than anything else. The horror/vampire genre has produced many a good film (Interview With A Vampire, Dracula etc), but just as many really bad films, this possibly being the worst of them. Please avoid this at all costs!
