Senteur As somebody who had not heard any of this before, it became a curious phenomenon to sit and watch a film and slowly have the realities begin to click into place.
Allissa .Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
demented_one It is what it is, I call them 10/90 movies because they have a nucleus of about ten percent American actors and the rest are Canadians - they need to stop shooting in British Columbia it keeps reinforcing what the Canadian accent is all 'aboot' This was a b movie, and while it was watchable, it was not very good. More gore than the opening scene in saving private ryan, but none of the acting that goes with it. People horribly killed and while they have an odd extra puking, the heroes forge ahead intrepidly.if you can't find anything else better, it is worth a watch
MartianOctocretr5 Screened on SyFy as Sea Beast (Trogolodyte on IMDb), probably because it's a hybrid of so many other creatures, both sea beasts and land beasts. Look for elements of Jaws, Alien, Jurassic Park, Lake Placid, and Predator, among others. It's fun, and just what you expect from a SyFy original offering (at least it's free). Low budget, loosely jointed, questionable acting, cheap CGI effects, and unresolved items at the end. But the creatures are pretty well designed, and the lead actor, the fisherman guy, does pretty well. There's actually urgency in his voice. Not so his daughter and her paper thin character friends. Drama 1 drop outs. The one-on-one fights between the teens and baby creatures are absolutely hilarious--in particular the one where the sea beast pulls himself into a rock, lol. That single moment is worth the price of admission. The siege on the cabin has some great visuals, too. Most important for a movie is to entertain, and this one does. It holds your attention, and some scary scenes manage to sprinkle in amongst all the craziness. Yes, it resorts to some horror clichés like the blood spurting out of a neck bit when somebody gets decapped. Also, you never quite know what spawned these things. But it's good enough for at least for a few laughs.
reddynolan-1 Okay... who's relative is she? This movie would have been fun, but the actress who played the daughter was painful to watch. Her half-hearted attempt at displaying fear - or any form of emotion - resulted in either the vacant look of trying really hard to multiply 9x7, or the look of surprise at accidentally figuring 9x7 out. Why would the director settle for this? Also, the editing was choppy. The writing horrendous. The idea is good. The locale is gorgeous. The CGI beasts are fun. It was also great to see a slew of more than decent character actors. And, didn't they do the absolute best with what they were given as far as writing was concerned. Kudos for that.
thetauren13 Worthless plot, lame acting, by-the-numbers flick. Nonetheless, I rather enjoyed it.This highly predictable movie adds nothing to a world of monster movies. If you're looking for a masterful piece with an inventive story and relatable characters, go somewhere else. However, if you want to be mindlessly entertained and simply enjoy watching CGI monsters tear things up, check out this title. The beast itself is very well done. Seeing it in action, you would never guess this is just another low-budget made-for-scifi channel movie. When the beast is on-screen, the movie really shines; and fortunately it has a decent amount of screen time, since things are extraordinarily lame when the beast isn't around. Also, trying to avoid any spoilers, I'll just say I was pleasantly surprised with the ending as far as the characters were concerned. Horror movies are all to often predictable in this respect, and it seems the most annoying characters wind up alive. Finally, the girl is relatively attractive to look at, which helps any movie's cause, and turned out to be capable of some unexpected ass-kickery.Overall, a very fun movie to watch. Unless you're a snotty film critic who thinks you're gifted with some kind of social superiority, I'd recommend it.
