Some things I liked some I did not.

Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Ava-Grace Willis
Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

absolutely awesome. i will wait for the sequel.Kangana has the potential to become an all time legend of Hindi movie screen.everything in film looks fresh, except 'mama' type role. some 'jhole' is there, but i guess it is OK. hero shooting in back is over-do/over-kill. they could have escaped and he could have been murdered in Italy in next installment.absolutely impeccable acting. hits bulls eye. i think this is better than Queen.by the way: all other heroins are crap in front of Kangana, the other girl, call Vidya gets biased support from her husband.Kangana has no Godfather in industry and has to fight for everything.I wish you all the best Kanagana, may God protect you.
Akshay Kumar (akshay-ak-kumar)
I've to admit one thing..after watching the excellent 'Queen' last month, I've become a fan of Kangana Ranaut. She is a terrific actress but is highly under rated. But after watching Revolver Rani, I came out of the theatre wondering what type of movie I saw and felt bad for Kangana.'Revolver Rani' is an excellent plot. In the Chambal backdrop, Kangana plays Alka Singh who is an outlaw turned politician. A don, she is not scared taking on the Tomar brothers, her rivals head on. Supporting her is her cunning Balli Uncle (Piyush Mishra), who is the smart background player. And to spice up her life, there is her BF, Rohan (Vir Das) who is using her to fund his movies. So on one had she is a killer but in her home, she is a sex starved woman with a bizarre dressing sense. We see an Alka who is not scared of using her gun and killing people. In an fantastic scene, we have Rohan who is held hostage by the Tomar bros and is being tortured when Alka comes with her men and bravely saves Rohan from them killing many of Tomar's men in return. In Hindi movies, we see this scenes every time the hero saves the heroine. But here, it was fun to watch a vice versa. However, the writers just can't spice up the movie when required. Hence, the film slows down many times in both the halves and you're just wondering why the movie is not progressing. The movie takes the bizarre turn when Alka comes to know she is pregnant when everyone said she can't be a mother. Its here the movie loses steam. Rohan's marriage to Alka and his immediate 2nd marriage is initially funny but that becomes bizarre because its over stretched. And the end, is more inspired from the Gangs of Wasseypur and Kill Bill movies when many men try to kill Alka and she beautifully fights back. There is a scope for a sequel but I really doubt that will happen.Kangana is the star of the movie. But in the 2nd half, she can't pull through thanks to her poor characterization. From a gun totting women to someone who wants to have a baby and settle down looks strange for the viewers. On the other hand, Vir Das is excellent as her cunning BF and the father of her child. He initially stays in her shadows but in the end, he shows his true colors.Piyush Mishra is fantastic as Balli Mama. As a scheming background player, he does everything for his niece, Alka. But as the film progresses, he is ready to betray her for power and money.Zakir Hussain is brilliant as Udaybhan Tomar. He gets into the character and plays the smart cum idiot politician to the T.Special mention to Kumud Mishra and Pankaj Saraswat who play the goofy younger Tomar brothers and a Hindi TV news anchor Mishkka Singh played by Payal Parihar. These three light up the screen and bring smile to our faces thanks to their excellent comic timing. Also, the problem lies with the director Kabir Sai who tries to be a Quintin Taratino and an Anurag Kashyap and hence many a times I could see the influence of these filmmakers in the movie. My only advice to Kabir is be himself because he has the talent to make fabulous entertainers. The music is good but the songs slow down the film. Overall, a better screenplay, clear characterization and crisp editing would have easily made this film into a cult classic.

Kangna Proves Her Mettle, Yet Again with 'Revolver Rani'. The National-Award-Winning Actress delivers a fearless, sterling performance, that even over-powers the film. She's wow & how! 'Revolver Rani' Synopsis: An aggressive political leader falls in love with an actor, in the middle of a warfare. Chaos ensures... As a film, 'Revolver Rani' is a mixed bag. There are some gripping moments, but they are few & far between. The political/violent backdrop is initially entertaining, but later appears bland & stretched. Even the love-story angle, is just about passable. Sai Kabir's Screenplay is good, but only in parts. The first-hour is strictly okay, while the second-hour is partly gripping. His Direction, on the other-hand, is abstract, but appealing. Performance-Wise: Kangna is the life of the show. She delivers even when the film falters. Without doubt, its amongst her finest performances to date! Vir Das does a fair job. Piyush Mishra is natural to the core. Zakhir Hussain is outstanding. He enacts the villainous politician with effortless ease. On the whole, 'Revolver Rani' is a Kangna show all the way!

Indians love slapstick humor but seldom appreciate dark comedy humor though things are changing with a certain segment accepting films like "1:40 Ki last local", "Go Goa Gone", "Shor", "Ishqiya" series (& the few others made recently).Debutante director Saikabir's Revolver Rani is an unapologetic creatively outlandish, pulp-fiction meets political satire that provides doses of Tamasha. The dark setting, the straight face yet wacky humor in an otherwise intentional loud scenario, witty lines, eccentric music (a masterstroke by new music director Sanjeev Srivastava), crookedly weird verbose villains, unpredictable characters – it is a rightful tribute to the one & only QT. (There's also tribute to Robert Rodriquez – the initial credit & the metallic bra is homage to Machete. There's also a tribute to Scarface in the climax scene). When was the last time you saw a black comedy based on a shocking female protagonist (that also the leader of a political party) who is neurotic, psychotic, egoist, wicked & even a nymphomaniac. When was the last time you saw a Hindi film where the hero is the toy-boy of the female protagonist. Add on to it there are dozens of eccentric characters like the calculative sex-maniac mama, MJ (who resembles the iconic pop-star) & three weird political personalities. There's a news reporter who uses random Shayeri to describe the situations & she is bound to bring the house down with "Sim Sim pore pore" thing.Spoilers -The brutally twisted climax was handled deftly which was kind of cursor to Kill Bill. If a 2nd part is made I hope Rani takes brutal revenge like the Bride & please no more emotions, softness...Spoiler EndLike Go Goa Gone (of 2013) this was a fresh attempt in Hindi cinema But RR got diluted by the emotional element in the stretched second half. Though needed to inflict conflict, the director outdid the sentiment part while the dark, wacky humor got relegated to backstage. It seemed like the producer had forced the director to add sentimental elements to suit the sensibility of a wider audience.Kabir has a flair for Hollywood films & knows his art – the use of minimalist light, apt background music, frames depicting layers, one hope he remains consistent next time. Without lifting scenes he took cues from Kill Bill and suitably changed it for Indian sensibilities. He knows the violent region of Chambal and the brutal game of politics prevalent thus instilling realistic flavor to the eccentric proceedings. He got ample support from other departments. Debutant Sanjeev Srivastava rocks the show with his inspired background music which had retro beats strategically mixed with rock to portray the pulse of the characters. The use of 90s songs used effectively and the use of the siren sound from Kill Bill was a masterstroke. The songs were nice but it hampered the screenplay in the second half.Suhas Gujrati's camera deserves a special mention who lends voice to each of his frames. With revolver Rani, Kangana stamped that she is miles ahead of her contemporaries as Alka Singh aka Rani isn't an easy character to portray which she dared to do & how. Personally I loved her more in this film than Queen (She was superb there too) but when compared Queen had a softer tone which is generally liked by a larger segment. Another strong point - Supporting actors like Kumud Sharma, Zakir Hussein, Vir das, Zeeshan Qadri (definite from GOW).. And obviously, the ever talented & extremely choosy Piyush Mishra sir (as Mama). (By the way those who loves his voice, he also sung two songs in the film).Overall, those who are new to the genre can give it a try. It's like tasting alcohol for the first time, the initial gulp would be heavy & shocking but gradually one either gets use to it or rejects it completely. For the "avid" drinkers like me who enjoys Tarantino (& likes) the film has a rocking 1st half and a superb climax. The initial 45 minutes of the second half diluted the otherwise decent attempt.P.S: At societal level, let all the unwanted girl child of India turns a rebel like Rani & beat the sh*t out of men in this regressive patriarchal society...
