A reconstruction of the possible events that might have led up to the real-life tragic case of the Luxton family who lived at West Chapple Farm, Winkleigh, Devon. Brothers and sister Robert, Alan and Frances Luxton had lived in the farm for many years. On 23 September 1975 their bodies were found with shotgun wounds outside their farmhouse.

Red-Barracuda This short film is a about a true event that happened in 1975 known as the Luxton Tragedy. At an isolated farm one night three elderly people who had lived there for decades committed murder and suicide resulting in the deaths of all of them. They were a family compromising of two brothers and one sister. I am not sure how close the film stays to the factual evidence but it suggests that these were people whom time had left behind. Old age had made running the farm impractical, while the younger brother seemed to suffer from mental illness where he often saw and interacted with dead people from his past such as his stern father and a mysterious girl he was attracted to in his youth. His older brother and sister decide to sell the farm. The younger brother is aggressively against such a move but the older siblings also struggle with the idea of massive change at this stage in their lives. This ultimately leads to the tragic events.Seemingly, this was actually shot on location at the Luxton farm itself which certainly is great authenticity and an additional layer of interest. The film also hints very strongly at an incestuous relationship between the older siblings which adds even further to the damaged nature of these individuals and the isolated life they have led up to this point. Although I have read elsewhere that there has been some strong debate as to the veracity of this claim. Whatever the case, the film was always going to be speculative to at least some extent, as all the participants died on the fateful night. The film itself is a fascinating low-key drama which tells its sad story very effectively in its short run-time.
miclhole I saw this film in the old days, when there was always a B movie before the main event. I live about 10 miles from the scene of the action,in Devon. It is a true story of murder and suicide, set in the hills north of Dartmoor. The plot centres on an isolated farming family, called the luxtons who time has left behind, with their problems in getting to grip with ageing, and mental illness. Filmed on location,on the actual farm where the three main characters really lived (and died)With a great cast It is a small Classic. See it when you can because it is rare. Spoiler . Two Brothers and a Sister live on an isolated farm, near Dartmoor. The elder brother and the sister seem to have a full relationship, while the younger brother tries to brake free, without success. When the Brother and Sister see that the old life can't go on forever, they decide on the change that the younger brother can't take. He kills himself, then the brother kills the Sister.A gripping murder mystery
