Mysterious Island Trailers

Five prisoners of war escape captivity in a Confederate prison camp only to land in an uncharted Pacific island where time stands still and dastardly pirates don't take kindly to strangers in director Russell Mulcahy's screen adaptation of fantasy author Jules Verne's literary classic. They thought they were on their way to freedom when they leapt into a balloon and took to the skies, but upon landing on an island where nothing is as it seems, these escapees are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. From bloodthirsty beasts to murderous pirates and a mad genius named Captain Nemo (Patrick Stewart), treachery lurks behind every corner on this island, and if these five survivors have any hope of staying alive, they'll have to fight to their dying breaths to escape the island and get back to the modern world.

Reviews
StunnaKrypto Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.
Libramedi Intense, gripping, stylish and poignant
Jemima It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
SeaPilot I wish to thank the creator of their word posthumously because without "it" nothing else would apply to this "lovely" little flop. Patrick!!!! What the hell were you thinking when you signed on or did they hold a pistol to you or are you broke? No other explanation could exist for your participation. At least Gabrielle was there to divert our attention to something else. Also, I need to send out a "cosmic" plea asking for forgiveness from the author for abuse of his story.
Silvia Hartmann The reason I gave this 2 stars rather than just one is because of the laugh out aloud factor in its sheer badness. The acting is truly beyond horrendous; the dialogue unbelievable, the props are just astonishing (and not in the good way) and the attempts at CGI hilarious. I can only think that this was an early days of Hallmark production and they never expected there would be any spectators one day.A good one to poke fun at, for film and acting students to learn how not to do it, with the only redeeming feature the beauty of the location, which was sitting sadly in the background, weeping ...
cudaseeker-1 Don't waste your time with this. If I had known that this was a made for TV movie, with fade outs for commercials, and a "to be continued" pause in the middle of the DVD, I would not have rented it. It was a waste of 2 hrs & 45 minutes of my time. I do believe that the special effects were supposed to be cheesy, as if to imitate the 1961 original film. If that was the case, they didn't even match up to that and that movie is 45 years old for crying out loud! But go rent the original. It was much better. Even Jason and the Argonaut movies hands down had 100 times better effects than this movie. Patrick Stewart, one of my favorite actors of today and the main reason that I rented it, was fair at best. You could tell that he was just walking through this role and suffering along with the rest of us. And he sure was not at all interested in vying for an Oscar or Emmy. Yikes!! Oh, and did I mention that this was a totally useless movie? Stay away......a galaxy far, far away!
RLARKT199 Hallmark entertainment should leave these Jules Vern films alone. They did a bad job on filming,20,000 leagues under the sea, which was around a 3 hour bore, now, their version of Mysterious Island, again another bore which lasts about 3 hours. The special effects were bad,a bunch of relatively unknown actors,do not waste your time with this one. If possible,go to your video store or purchase a copy of the 1961 version which is far superior than this one. The 1961 version has well known British and American actors, good special effects that were outstanding for that year, even today they stand out, this film also has a Bernard Herrmann music score.
