Doomtomylo a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.
Freeman This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
Tanuj Poddar What a beautiful script!!!This is the story of an orphan, Aashima (Anjali Patil) who weds another orphan, Bhushan in the town of Aligarh. Bhushan lives as a PG in a room. His landlady, Shiela (Madhu Kandhari Rajesh), is an affectionate person who takes care of Bhushan and develops a bonding with Aashima.Bhushan brings the bride home on a scooter, which he had bought on the same day. In this new life of sort for the young middle class couple, the scooter becomes an integral part of their lives (Beautifully narrated through the song Phatphati & Vibhaajan). Just when we settle down to follow the trails of the couple, tragedy strikes. Bhushan dies in an accident. Aashima is left numb, not knowing whats ahead (Beautiful song "Saiyaan Huye Faraar"). Shiela is the only one concerned about her and helps her earn a living by selling pickles. However, in everyday life the slender frame of Aashima is privy to the male gaze, including that of Shiela's husband Baldev (who only rents out his rooms to girls).Shiela concerned about the lone girl, tries to foster a matrimonial alliance between Aashima and Shiela's brother Yogi. But Aashima is reluctant as she doesn't want to get into another marriage just for the sake of it.Among-st those smitten by Aashma is the vegetable vendor, Manu (Satyakam Anand). Whilst living among rowdy friends, Manu is good at heart and tries to convey his feeling to Aashima. The nervous chemistry between Manu and Aashima is wonderfully shown and the actors take the credit (Another beautiful song "Aye Murjhaye Mann" comes to aide).Life is moving on, but will Aashima? As for the title of this movie, the narrative often juxtaposes the situations that Aashima experiences through actions on the scooter. This is an indigenous approach (the director is an advertising guy) to avoid making the movie very melodramatic and depressing. What is really charming about the movie is the subtlety of the narrative. Absolutely loved the songs, they add so much to the narrative. While the story was well narrated, one thing I always kept thinking about was how did Aashima get married to Bhushan in the first place. Probably an arranged marriage through classified ads, I assumed anyway. The support actors specially Shiela and Manu certainly leave an impact, but it is Aashima that certainly steals the show. In this glamorous and glitzy world of bollywood, after Nandita Das and Tannishtha Chatterjee, Anjali Patil is surfacing as another dusky beauty that is making her presence felt through some really impactful and amazing performances.
