SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

I'm surprised at the low mark this has as I saw the movie at Fantastic Fest and found it to be a supremely effective and creepy horror with some very memorable and disquieting imagery. The setup is about a pop group who have chosen to film a video in a network of caves, and while they're setting up the cameras they accidentally uncover an idol, which they unwisely disturb. From there it feels almost like Silent Hill, with each of the characters in it facing their own horrors related to traumatic incidents from their past, which are twisted into surreal and often harrowing encounters. Each of their stories also overlap, with the majority of the movie representing their different experiences of a thirty minute period, which adds another refreshing element to the movie. The only downsides are that the movie does quite a bit of setup at the start before it moves into the real horror territory (although for me, this wasn't too bad), and the ending - which I won't disclose any details of - felt a bit conventional, which was a disappointment given the original and haunting visuals earlier in the film.I for one can't wait to get it on Blu-ray and so hope that it is available with subtitles.
