Well Deserved Praise

Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

I recently saw Gauragangur again, and this time on DVD. The first time I watched it I wanted to write a review but never did. In some ways Gauragangur is a typical coming of age story, a teenager in love, in trouble, writes poetry. In other ways it's really different from most coming of age stories, the way Ormur talks is unusual and not like any teenager - now a days at least - would talk. It was difficult to imagine that any young actor at all could pull it off. I read all the praise Alexander Briem got from the critics for his first leading role as Ormur and was afraid that they were overreacting. But no! He guy is fantastic! So natural in this difficult role that it's unbelievable. His good looks do not spoil either. It will be exciting to see what the future holds for him! Gauragangur is not the best movie I've seen but it's fun and Alexander Briem makes me want to see it again!
