ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Teddie Blake The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Cody One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
Robert Reynolds This is a short from the Fleischer Studios. There will be spoilers ahead: As I said in my summary, the title is a variant on the title, "Grand Hotel". They even repeat the tag line of the feature "Nothing ever happens here".The short itself is visually appealing, but is otherwise unexceptional, being largely a rehash of gags from other cartoons or jokes riffing on film scenes. The cartoon is cute and entertaining, just not terribly original. It just takes the gags and has them happen to cavemen. There's an elevator gag, a switchboard operator, calls by guests of the hotel for various needs and services and so on. The ending is interesting and enjoyable. This is on a Weird Cartoons release from shout! and the DVD is worth watching. The short is of interest to completists.
MartinHafer This short film by Fleischer Brothers is unusual for many reasons. First, unlike most of the Popeye and Betty Boop cartoons they made and were famous for, this cartoon is actually entertaining and original. While some of the humor is quite corny, it is about on par with what Warner Brothers was producing at the time. Second, in many ways, this cartoon seems like much of the inspiration for the much later Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, THE FLINTSTONES, as it is set in the stone age (along with MANY modern conveniences). Apart from Fred and Barney, the whole look of the short is very similar (though it is done in black and white and features higher quality animation than Hanna-Barbera).All in all, a very strange but watchable curio. Give it a try.
