Reviews
Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Brendon Jones It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
Roy Hart If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
mikesnppr Although the anime version of FMA is far from perfect, it is much better than this movie and I recommend watching it instead. Now, I of course understand that the movie had to cut out a big part the plot from the anime, since it has limited runtime, but the problem is what the movie did with the time it had.The actual alchemy in action is few and far between, which is a shame, but fine, I suppose I will give them that, since they had a limited CGI budget. So what shall you be watching most of the time? Not much, the characters who talk about nothing interesting, plot that isn't moving, or is crawling at a snail's pace and you will find yourself looking at your watch. Would be nice if they filled this time with at least talking about alchemy, since they are doing so little of it, so we could learn some interesting facts about it, or perhaps uncovered some more of the conspiracy that was going on... but nope.. pretty much nothing all that interesting going on a lot of the time (or moving very slowly).Since the main storyline ended up not fully resolved, it means this is supposed to be a trilogy, so let's hope the sequel will do much better job that this meh movie. The acting was fine, but unless you are an anime fan, then the overreacting the characters do will seem strange to you.So even though the movie was not terrible, it was just a pale shadow of the original.
strawdogbill I can recommend this movie wholeheartedly having watched the animated version. It stays true to cannon. The dubs are very good also. I can't wait for FMA 2!
hainomomusa This movie is a visual experience of different styles. The power of this movie is definitely in its visual style and overall style of directing. The movie uses different themes throughout the movie but yet the movie manages to create one big unique identity. The movie never feels incoherent or disjointed in its style or storytelling, though it all widely differs from each other at times.
paigemaska I grew up as a hardcore FMA fan, so this was something I had to see. I don't have high expectations of live action movies, because they can't quite grasp the effects of an anime, but when it came to character appearances of a European-setting with an all Asian cast, they did pretty well. I was pretty disappointed on the emotion of this movie, it wasn't nearly as moving as the anime, I feel like rather than almost following the original script with slight little plot twists, the story should have been written on a small segment of Ed and Al's journey, it wouldn't have been as rushed and they could focus on details. I think Ed's character was decent, yet he wasn't as loud, rebellious, and mouthy as the anime version, he was too serious most of the time. Al felt really distant as a character, and when it came to characters like Mustang, there was a lost connection. It would have been nice to see more action too, at least have an actor or stunt double that knows martial arts to play in the fight scenes, that would have helped liven it up. Overall this movie was better than I anticipated, yet there were a lot of holes in the story, if they were filled/changed it would have been fantastic.
