I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

This is an excellent, deeply moving film about a long-lost father meeting his troubled teenage daughter. A riveting plot, superb acting, detailed character portraits, and excellent cinematography combine to pluck at your heart's strings. The scenery is rather bleak - a decrepit Russian town - but the movie manages to be uplifting all the same. Just for context, I haven't yet rated a movie a 9 or a 10, so 8 is truly my top mark.
