It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

This should have been much better. Although I always try to judge a movie or mini-series on its own merits, I just want to say I read the books very recently and because of how beautifully written, engrossing and emotionally felt they are they are now among my favourites. Part of me was excited about seeing Earthsea I was also dubious considering who was responsible. I overall found Earthsea deeply disappointing. It has good cinematography and tolerable effects I give you that, but everything else fails. I don't want to compare too much actually to the books, as Earthsea was problematic even on its own merits, but as an adaptation it is really atrocious to the extent you can't even recognise it. But that is not all. The worst asset is the story, disjointed and as far from engrossing as you can go, having none of the feeling, soul and heart that I get from the books. The script is full of awkward delivery and stilted and unintentionally cheesy lines. You don't care at all for the characters, they are not likable or easy to empathise with but feel like fantasy clichés. The pacing is sluggish, the direction cumbersome and the acting is awful with some of the most uncharismatic actors I've seen anywhere in recent times. Overall, a soulless mess, the Studio Ghlibli film was less than perfect, and not exactly a brilliant adaptation either, and my least favourite of theirs but it was far more watchable than this. 2/10 Bethany Cox

In my opinion, the movie is not horrible, nor is it completely off from the books. It is a good movie that ou can really get into, even if you only started watching it in the middle.I, and many others, would have been much, much happier if they had stayed true to the books, but in some cases, i like the movie's changes.since saying which are good and which were bad is a spoiler, i will not say, but there are moments that you'll find yourself going back to the books and wondering which you like better, thought of course, the book will always be Best. :)

I simply feel I cannot talk about this movie too much. I prefer to go and take the book and read it again. But I will fill in the minimum lines. It is awful. How come can you imagine changing that much is OK? And to change the names??? What/Who in the name of God made you think that is OK? And the idea I don't understand is why the real story was not followed to the end? Making a movie is always difficult cause you have less time than you need. But this movie was made long, with enough time to put in all the needed points, with some time to make the viewer understand these marker points. So, LOTR was bigger and they made it in 3 full movies. And it was very nice. So, taking a book half one LOTR volume and put it in 3 hours and do that mess...incredible. Where is this world going to? Everything SO commercial.

The vibrancy and beauty of the Earthsea books is lost on this script. While the author has made a valiant attempt to combine the plots of the first two books of LeGuin's deservedly famous Earthsea series the changes he has made have weakened the story and diminished the character development. Some of the acting in the first few scenes is appalling bad, but stick with it as it gets better as it rolls along. If you are a special effects fan then you will be disappointed. Some of the SFX are rather crude and jarring. So if like me you are a fan of the books put your memory on hold and enjoy this charming unpretentious little tale which reproduces elements of the books and occasionally some of the dialogue. A lesser work but charming none the less.
