Did you people see the same film I saw?

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

An excellent tale of war torn Calcutta where there is a mysterious drug dealer planning to do something dangerous and our own Satyanweshi somehow gets to save his city. Dibakar Banerjee's imagination is worth taking note. Nikos Andritsakis's canvas justifies the mood and soul of 1942 Calcutta. The additional visual effects give this film a status of a neo-noir.Now the story. The story is based on Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's characters. Although there is a whole new flavour to the film but still it retains the soul of Byomkesh Bakshy. The plot is full of suspense and twists which helps the audiences to remain with the film. Though there are moments when the screenplay seems to be dragging but still one would not want to leave it in the middle. The background music gives the film a contemporary feel which contrasts itself to the time-line in which the story is based. Again these things gives the film edge over other Byomkesh Bakshy encounters.A big thumbs up to the acting department. It is evident that right from the supporting actors, the second leads everyone pour their talent in this film. Swastika Mukherjee as Anguri Devi / Yasmeen was a delight to watch, Neeraj Kabi as Dr. Anukul Guha was witty and fun to watch and equally evil during the climax. Talking about Rajput and Tiwari, they compliment each other very well.Overall it is a film which has its flaws but still it would be remembered as one of the finest detective films of Bollywood.

Of all the masala flicks that Bollywood produces each and every year, this one stands out as the suspense thriller that is in fact a suspense thriller, and not some typical Bollywood film. The story is great, the cinematography is beautiful, the 1940's Kolkata feels authentic. Sad that the film was a commercial flop. All of the cast was relatively unknown to me but all of them are incredible actors,Swastika Mukherjee leaves a mark and grabs your attention whenever shes on the screen. Sushant Singh Rajput as a detective is OK i guess but he does justice to his character. There is not enough character development of Ajit and Satyawati. The last act of the film feels lame in comparison to the tension that was built up during the entire film,it would have been better if they could have handled it differently. I'd recommend it as a must watch.

Just witnessed a great cinematic piece by Dibakar Bannerjee! There is a certain grip required in a detective / suspense movie and it has been executed to complete perfection. Just when it seemed that the suspense factor is getting clichéd, the plot surprises with some great twists, thanks to an excellent script and direction which gave a lot of importance to intricacies in scenes. Whether it is Calcutta of 1940s or the portrayal of characters, the movie hits the right target. From performance side, Sushant totally gets absorbed into the iconic character of Byomkesh Bakshy and he makes sure not to portray the character as 'larger than life' and instead the character matures beautifully during the entire movie. Neeraj Kabi and Anand Tiwari display tremendous range in their characters and all other supporting cast has made complete justice to their respective roles. All in all Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! is a treat to watch.

If Anurag Kashyap is held at a gun point and if he is asked to name one contemporary to make a movie, chances are high he'd close his eyes & name this man called Dibakar Banerjee. With a 135 min high intensity plot running with full vigour & zeal, the lickety-split Byomkesh Bakshy will keep you surmising, inquisitive and your gray matter unbent. It is close to impossible to sit back & relish that popcorn, since each enigmatic frame contains you completely with its mystery and question marks. And even before you know it, you reach the zenith in the story only to realize how a common whirl of a person missing in Calcutta turns out to be a whirlpool with Calcutta at the center of it. Sushant Singh Rajput delivers a path-breaking personal best & there's no reason for him to turn back. Overall with the pace, the convolution of the mystery & a brilliant storytelling, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is a definite watch! #detectivebyomkeshbakshy #bollywood
