sxdrr Allrighty, then. Where to begin? I am a fan of cinema, I believe it to be the highest form of art that exists. I enjoy all types of cinema, the ones that redefine popular culture and the ones that make us contemplate how awful our popular culture has become. When I am relaxing and having a drink (or two) I even enjoy watching horrible movies to laugh at while I grow steadily more intoxicated. Dark Town was something beyond what I previously defined as bad. Here are some highlights without spoiling (lol) the movie for anyone intending to watch it.1)The prosthetic teeth that the vampires use are so bad that they garble the actors' voices, so that their atrocious delivery is even more incomprehensible 2)You get to see a vampire lick blood off the floor in a manner that would put most adult film stars to shame (but your friends will imitate it until the joke loses all humor, which was minimal to begin with) 3)A vampire who loses her baby in the creepiest mock-abortion recorded on film proceeds to breast feed another grown woman by slicing off her nipple and making her suckle on the wound (in detail) 4)One of the vampires is decapitated, then pulls his shirt up over his head to complete the special effects and suddenly become a foot taller than everyone else in the shot.Anyhow, I was drinking gin and doing cocaine while watching this movie. Normally, I really get into the bad movies and laugh along while my friends make jokes about what is happening in the film. Dark Town made me angry at the TV screen. There is no word for it besides complete vomit. If you are looking to pinch a huge loaf on your entire evening, ruin it with this piece of garbage. I am appealing to the public to find some way of legally preventing this movie's producers from continuing to work in the film industry. Kind of like that appeal to Uwe Boll.

Duffman5128 By far the worst movie I have ever watched. How this movie was made remains a mystery to me. I wouldn't really classify it as a horror movie, actually, I wouldn't classify it as a movie at all. Its like a mix between Vampire/Gang Banga/Lesbian Porno.The acting is a joke, the dialogue is a joke, the plot is non-existent. There's no excuse for making a movie this poorly. I mean, its awful. Its such a bad movie, its hilarious at times. My brother went to Blockbuster to rent a movie and was told to rent the worst looking movie he could find, and let me tell you, he did it. This movie is a joke, and watching it the first time made me almost kill myself laughing. Actually, I wish it did kill me. Thats just how bad this movie is. Giving this movie a 1 is generous. The scenes change from lesbian vampires getting it on, to Ganstas shooting each other, and then to vampires eating each other with no transition or explanation. If you want to watch this movie, I cant stop you, but let me suggest putting some trash cans next to your TV, because you may want to throw-up after watching this. Its also a good idea, because then you can throw away the DVD after you have watched it. (Thats assuming you haven't already killed yourself after watching this cinematic disgrace). Actually in most cases, your DVD player will kill itself if you try to play DarkTown in it, so I'll give you a summary of the movie in case that happens: Dead Cat with no eyes... random man does a bad parking job on a dark road, walks into empty dark warehouse apparently looking for immigrants... sees shoes in hallway, shines light in dark room. Loud noises annoy you as a girl with some weird Japanese mask is revealed by the flash light.After that stupid and unexplained introduction (If thats what you want to call it) The next scene is in a dark room where 3 family members are preparing for someones birthday. The person finally arrives, who happens to be the guy from the introduction. He is acting strange... (Not sure if there's something wrong with the character... or if its just bad acting... probably both) The family awkwardly exchanges meaningless dialogue that explains nothing. The birthday guy is drinking something from a thermos, everyone assumes its alcohol. When asked what it is, he replies (with a dumb face and voice) "Just a little PICK me up!". Then the guy grabs the lady (who is pregnant) and drives off with her, everyone else is like... whatever. Then for some unexplained reason, we see the man ripping the undeveloped baby from the womb, and says "It has your eyes". Then two lesbians are having sex. Then there's a scene with a bunch of gang members saying a couple lines (Each using the S word about 5 times) and then they start shooting each other. Then vampires start killing gang members, and the two lesbians become lesbian vampires. Lots of blood. Then a gang member and lesbian semi-vampire hide in a house and find another semi-vampire neighbor who wants to exchange blood with the semi vampire, they fight each other. Then they all become vampires. Then the gang member and lesbian come out of their vampire trance and kill vampires, and it ends with them looking at the sunlight coming out of a hole in a roof.Reading other comments, I read one comment where someone actually approved of Darktown. Nick Faust it was. He called it a "Low Budget Gem". I hope he was joking.

José Luis Rivera Mendoza (jluis1984) The world of independent cinema is definitely a difficult one to work, sure, the artists receive an unlimited amount of freedom and the chance to put on film whatever idea they have on mind without caring if the content goes against studio policies or marketing issues. However, this apparently unlimited freedom comes hand in hand with the difficult task of raising funds for the project without the aid of wealthy producers or helpful supporters, putting the quality of the final product in a compromising situation. "Dark Town" is probably one of the best examples of this double edged sword, as director Desi Scarpone and writer David Birke truly aim for a very ambitious (and surprisingly original) story that sadly gets practically mutilated by their status as independent filmmakers and modest micro-budget.It's Curtis Armstrong's (Joel King) birthday, but instead of being celebrating it with his dysfunctional family, this greedy WASP slumlord is checking one of his properties in Compton during a series of blackouts. When he finally arrives to his suburban "paradise", his family discovers that something is not exactly right with Curtis, as he acts a bit weirder than his usual self. His wife and kids will realize too late that the head of the Armstrong family is now one of the undead, a vampire lord that quickly begins to turn the neighborhood into a bloody hell. Only his estranged lesbian daughter Jen (Janet Martin) seems to be unaffected by the curse and she'll have to make an uneasy alliance with a group of Gangstas from Compton who chose the wrong night to have their revenge against Armstrong.As written above, this film does offer a somewhat original story, as David Birke's tale of suburban horror adds elements of zombie films to his vampire tale. In fact, the violent beastly way his vampires behave can not be more far removed from the seductive stereotype usually portrayed on film, as their bite has more to do with the gruesome cannibalism of Fulci's zombie films than with the smooth kiss of Dracula. With a not-so-subtle social cometary and a convoluted plot that rises more questions than answers, Birke's vampire odyssey sadly ends up as a very ambitious project that feels incomplete and sloppy due to the poor development of the dialogs and characters, as well as the lack of enough funds to create what truly may have looked like a great idea on paper.Director Desi Scarpone makes a respectable effort to bring Birke's story to life, but it's obvious that this suburban vampire story proved to be more ambitious than what the crew was able to achieve. Shot on video, the film has a photography that at best looks like a soap opera, but at its worst it looks like a poor student's project; however, it's wort to point out that Adam Tash's cinematography offers really inventive points of view and a somewhat creative camera-work despite the poor look of what he captures. While some of the make up is really cheap, most of the gore effects (and there are plenty of them) look indeed very good. Overall Scarpone shows conviction, love for his movie and even talent behind the camera; sadly not enough of those elements to save the film from its fate.The acting is the film's true downfall, as most of the cast members act and speak their lines with the skills of an amateur. The fact that the script is not that good is a serious problem, but this kind of acting only makes things worse, and shows that directing actors is a characteristic that Scarpone needs to practice more in order to improve. Still, one actor manage to come up with not only an effective work, but also a believable one, and that is Joel King's performance as Curtis Armstrong. King seems to enjoy the part of this despicable evil vampire and it's safe to say that is his performance what sometimes saves the film from being a disgrace.Honestly, it would be very easy to write about the countless flaws found in "Dark Town", as everything from the cinematography to the acting to the way the script is written is plagued with problems that make the movie feel as a mediocre horror film; but it's better to say that what Scarpone and Birke attempted in the film is something that should be done more often in films: to offer a fresh and original take on a horror sub-genre. Sure, "Dark Town" is disjointed, and maybe boring at times, but as a low-budget attempt is not that bad.I wouldn't recommend this movie to everyone, as people not used to micro budget movies would not really appreciate the effort put in this indie film, but fans of micro budget horror movies will find an original film that while not very well done, it's fairly original and even entertaining when watched with the right mood. Definitely not a winner, but not "the worst film ever made". 4/10

devilsreject1981-1 Now this is honestly not the greatest movie but it's definitely refreshing to see a horror movie that comes from someone who has been taking notes. Lesbians are a must in these movies but since WB has taken over the Hollywood horror game, we'll only see lesbians in B movies. Is this as good as Near Dark? Of course not, not even close. But does this movie have some cool images, sexy lesbians, and fun fake looking blood? Yes. Naked lesbians? Jackpot! I can't stress enough to you that this movie has girls kissing and actually looking like they like it. People who rip this movie like their horror t.v. friendly and slick with a big budget. Fans of low budget fare will love this. Is the acting great? Not really but there are a few people who stick out. The guy who played the father and the angst ridden daughter who has been missing in action while sleeping with her sexy girlfriend both come through. There is some confusion with what this movie wants to be but it's still pretty ambitious considering the budget is probably around 500 grand. This movie kind of meets in the middle, it has suburbia America meets the ghetto. There are even a few new attempts at disturbing imagery and it works okay. It's always fun to see a vampire cut open her breast and feed her newly turned baby. Haha... classic.
