This Spanish/Italian/German co-production results to be a simple , plain and passable clean fun . Average swashbuckler with Hans Von Borsody as Alan Drake , a legendary pirate against an evil enemy called Brasseur , Carlos Casaravilla , and his bloody hoodlums . Here's an entertaining pirate yarn with habitual characterizations and with some nice action . It begins in the Caribbe sea . There the a notorious pirate named Drake (Hans Von Borsody who provides youthful enthusiasm) aboard a ship and he sets sail for the seven seas . Then he is placed on the path of righteousness by his love for a beautiful young woman when her ship is attacked by a pirate and then Drake takes over the Spanish boat where meets a Spanish countess , Doña Isabella Valdez (Jane Clair) . As there takes place the Most Daring Adventure That Ever Swept Across the Seven Seas when the brave pirate meets up with his enemy on the high seas . Pirate Drake teaming up with a group of rebels but paying more attention to proper young lady , a gorgeous maid called Altagracia (Brigitte Corey) who frees from a slave market . Robert join forces a bunch of friends and makes them his crew , as his aides Blaine (Luis Induni), Puritano (Luis Sanchez Polack , ¨Tip¨) and a midget , among others . As a corsair captain and a crew of escaped pirates plundering for loot , revenge and righting wrings becomes his life . They are forced into piracy but ultimately earn pardon for their swashbuckling ways . As Drake and his crew sailing recklessly through dangerous waters , from the Caribbean islands along Atlantic Ocean today he still lives in hundreds of legends . Drake encounters dangerous situations while trying to retrieve his lover , freeing slaves ; and to avoid attacks over Maracaibo , where is the residence of the governor general (Carlo Tamberlani) and there lives the mysterious and beautiful Moira (Helga Line) . At the end takes place a huge pirate invasion on Maracaibo , carried out by Brasseur , attempting to destroy its fortress . The picture is set in Maracaibo and Isla Tortuga . In fact , Turtle Island was a popular homeport in which many of the crews turned pirate and used the city as their main base during the 17th century against the Spanish treasure fleets . Pirates from around the world congregated at Tortuga , coming from waters as far away as Madagascar. Amusing pirate movie , plenty of action , thrills , colorful cinematography , regular miniature work , luxurious costumes , adequate score ; all meld together under Eugenio Martin 's right direction . Although the story has been told before , tight filmmaking and likable acting win out . Combination of overwhelming battle ships , sword-play and full of villainy , romance , swashbuckler and heroism . This is a amusing movie but a lowed budget. In the self decors utilized by Anthony Mann in THE CID, Eugenio Martin converted Peñiscola en Maracaibo. Helga Line, is a pretty women pirate but masked always and the Spanish actor Carlos Casaravilla, Barta Barrie, José Maria Cafarell and Luis Sánchez Polack "Tip" converted also in pirates characters. This movie is very fine, sympathetic and amusing. Martin not have money and the same set from THE CID. Well. The action is very professional, not is THE CRIMSON pirate but is one story something for children. The good pirate, here is a heroes and battle with the bad pirates. Idealism and not pretension.
