Brilliant and touching

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies

I was in New York in 1959, this film was showing in a movie theater near Times Square, and at that time people were talking about the future release of "Scent of Mystery" the Mike Todd Jr film where you could smell what was on the screen (Smellovision). Well this film managed to be released a long time before and used a much cheaper process called Aromarama. It was a boring documentary (not that China is not interesting) . where at certain times a field of oranges or rice would appear and a subtitle would be shown on the screen with Aromarama written, with the specific smell. The smell would be released, probably through the air conditioning system. I was mostly impressed by the smell of oranges. I remember reading it had done quite well at the box office, but it was a one time deal. Who would want to smell that again?
