Reviews
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Mehdi Hoffman There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
Mandeep Tyson The acting in this movie is really good.
TheLittleSongbird I do get some pleasure out of the Barbie movies, and while not one of my favourites like Nutcracker, Diamond Castle and The Prince and the Pauper it is an enjoyable movie. The dialogue is on the corny and saccharine side(though there are some nice sophisticated jokes) and while sweet and well meaning the characters are not really all that plausible and are little different than they are in other entries. However, it is beautifully animated, has music that is whimsical and memorable, a slightly thin but very cute and charming story complete with some appreciative messaging and the voice acting is never too cutesy or shrill. In a nutshell, Magic of the Rainbow was an enjoyable movie, but not quite what I call a great movie. 7/10 Bethany Cox
crucio_for_coffee I was very skeptical about letting my four-year-old daughter watch this movie as I generally don't like the messages taught by "girls'" movies. However, I was very pleasantly surprised at how positive this movie is. Unlike the Disney princess movies, it focuses on personal achievement rather than on romance. The heroine's goal isn't to fall in love and get married, but rather, to learn and grow and save the world. She doesn't wait around to be rescued. Instead, Barbie/Elina is pro-active in solving her crisis. I also like that the villainess is not fat. She is curvy but it serves more to show that she is older and more experienced than Barbie/Elina, making her a more formidable opponent. Finally, this movie also shares an often hard-to-learn lesson: not everyone is going to like you or want to be your friend but that doesn't make them evil. Sometimes we have to work with people with whom we don't agree in order to accomplish the task at hand.
teintes My daughter got this movie as a birthday gift. I was initially concerned, as I always am, about how the "evil" character is depicted, both in his actions and visually, as I have 3 small girls...all under 6. I still went ahead and allowed them to see it. All three love it...they watch it at least twice a week. I should say that the youngest was initially a little afraid of the ugly fairy and the toad, as was my initial concern, but she clearly overcame it and loves it...! My second daughter is obsessed, she comes home from school and the first thing she does is put on her fairy costume... They also got away with making me redo the theme in their room...and yes...the new theme is rainbows. It is not the greatest kid movie ever but I find it appropriate and my girls love the beautiful fantasy world in it.....It is not however, by any means, a movie for adults, so I do not recommend any adult go out and rent it for their own viewing pleasure.
awsum_ginger I usually love watching these barbie movies with my nieces (and sometimes with my curious little nephew) but I will be honest, I watched this out of curiosity and of my own free will (it wasn't easy renting it! I was so embarrassed to have to walk up to the counter, it was like taking a walk of shame) Anyway, I've seen every single other barbie movie, and this one was the worst. Worst characters, plot was stupid and filled with so many holes, the animation was flatter than usual, and it was just so stupid that I had to turn it off. I don't even think kids would be interested in it. To begin with, I was never too thrilled with the Fairytopia series in general, it was always sort of boring. But I guess the kids buy into it (I much prefer the princess stories.) Just don't rent this movie. I certainly didn't like it. Your kids might, but there's a larger percent that they'll find it stupid and unbelievable like I did.
