Reptileenbu Did you people see the same film I saw?
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Blake Rivera If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
elsinefilo "At the End of Daybreak" is not a movie everybody might like. It opens with a shocking scene, which is foreshadowing for some, ostensibly irrelevant for others.Tuck Chai (Chui Tien You) is a 23 year old youngster. He is the son of a single mother (Wai Ying Hung). He looks like he has been embittered and chafed against life. He does not have much to do. He helps his diligent mother in her little shop during the day and at night he rides his bike and plays billiards with his buddies. His mother's sister has eloped with his father so he does not think highly of his father. On the net,he meets this girl Ying (Ng Meng Hui)who is yet to turn sixteen.Though Ying is a well-behaved girl she does not really know what to expect from life. Her grades are not really good either and she does not mind snitching on her school friend Sharon about her recent abortion. Whenever Ying and Tuck meet, they have sex in some motel. When one of her friends give Ying some birth control pills because she thinks Sharon has screwed up due to not using them,Ying starts taking those pills. When Ying's mother finds out about the pills she realizes her daughter's sexual activeness. The none-too-pleased, well off parents calls the mother of Tuck. They threaten that they will go to court and charge Tuck with statutory rape if Tuck's mother doesn't pay a major amount of money. Though Tuck's mother is a bit of a alcoholic and she may look like someone maladjusted at first glance she really cares about her son. She goes some lengths to raise that money for his son. The thing is that Ying's parents still insist on prosecuting Tuck even after his mother pays the money. And then things get out of hand. Tuck, who does not want to talk about some commitment when everything is good, still tries to see Ying.Ying, on the other hand, realizes she was well off without Tuck getting ever serious. The story seems like just one young couple could get to experience in real life and the acting is just good. Kara Hui as the single, caring mother is really good and both the young actor and the actress do their job well but still I felt like the movie did not really draw me in. The young girl's stolidness in a relationship right after it can't be kept hidden is just bitter cold and the boy's killing a pet mercilessly by dropping boiled water over it is just enough to keep you away from the movie. Moreover for a movie which you might want people associate themselves with or find something real, the soundtracks could have been picked better. All in all, this is an average movie which you won't lose much by bypassing it.
